Yamazaki Distillery – A Top Exhibitor in Las Vegas Nth Show 2017

Each year, in the city of chance, revelry, and extravagance, the Universal Whisky Experience hosts the Nth Show, an exclusive, master event featuring the world’s rarest whiskies.

Created by whisky collector and real estate tycoon, Mahesh Patel, the four-day event draws whisky experts and distillers from around the globe each year. Exciting whisky pairing dinners, seminars held by the world’s top distillers and blenders, and rare whisky tastings have made the Nth the huge success it has become over the years. Cigar pairing and drams that cost over $300.00 make this an extremely exclusive affair.

Unsurprisingly, 2017 sees the event’s popularity continue to soar.

This year, the Nth was held at the five-star Encore at Wynn hotel, and the grand event featured talks and seminars celebrating Dalmore master distiller, Robert Patterson’s 50 years in the industry.

“Whisky enthusiasts value curated experiences as well as rarity and exclusivity,” says Patel concerning the Nth.

Yamazaki

Many mammoth distilleries were featured at the Nth, with their rarest whiskies taking part in the tasting events.

To the joy of all us Japanese whisky fans, the Yamazaki distillery was part of the Nth’s list of the “World’s Most Premier Whisky Brands” and was a featured exhibitor at the event.

Of all the distilleries and bottlers on the list, Yamazaki was the only non-Scottish brand, a detail that clearly shows the distillery’s reach worldwide, as it continues to receive awards and recognition.

The distillery’s skill and expertise was presented through the wonderful Yamazaki Sherry Cask, a whisky considered one of the best in the world, defined as such by Jim Murray back in 2013, and featured in his book, The Whisky Bible.

The Yamazaki whisky was featured in the Super Pour event, which features whiskies priced at over $300.00 per dram.

More Japanese Whisky

  • The Hakushu Distillery was a part of the Super Pour, with its 25 year-old single malt. No surprise there, as this release was voted the World’s Best Single Malt Whisky in Japan in 2016 and then again this year, in 2017, at the World Whiskies Awards.
  • Voted the World’s Best Blended Whisky in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2017, the magnificent Hibiki 21 year-old was also a part of the event’s Super Pour round.

As expected, the vast majority of whiskies featured at the Nth event, and in the Super Pour rounds, were Scottish. However, as Japanese whisky continues to receive awards in global competitions, and take part in major events like the Nth, we can expect to see the rising star that is Japanese whisky continue to spread through the world.

The Yamazaki, Hakushu, and Hibiki brands that shone at the Nth are all owned by Suntory, a feat showing that the company’s mission towards global recognition is well underway.
