Suntory Pure Malt Whisky Yamazaki Distillery 80th Anniversary
Only 1 left in stock
Suntory is the oldest whisky making company in Japan. Its origins stretch back to a small shop, started in 1899 by Torii Shinjiro, which specialized in selling imported wines. Today, it is the country’s largest and most recognizable producer of quality whisky. This Pure Malt Whisky Yamazaki Distillery 80th Anniversary was made to celebrate the anniversary of Japan’s oldest distillery. And like everything else that comes out of this distillery, it’s pure delight.
Yamazaki is Japan’s oldest whisky distillery opened in 1923, it was founded by Shinjiro Torii near Oaska. The location was chosen because of the excellent water supply in the area. This seems to have payed off, today Single Malts from the Yamazaki distillery has the largest share of any single malts whiskies in Japan. The 18 year old Yamazaki Single Malts is thought by many to be the best whisky in the world and has for example won six consecutive double gold medals at the San Francisco Spirits Competitions from 2008 to 2013.
This is a great dram, full of fruit, balanced oak, peat and toffee. Simple, a bit smoky, bit dark chocolate, coffee, all mixed up in a wonderful taste. This is a wonderful whisky! Fruit, peat spice, and hints of coffee and dark chocolate open up when swallowed. Oily and coats your tongue.
