Just last month, Japanese whisky legends, Nikka, dropped the exciting news that they were continuing their Discovery Series with two brand new limited edition expressions titled “Aromatic Yeast”, one from each of their distilleries. Now, we’re happy to say we have got out hands on a limited quantity of these releases so that you can join us in enjoying these exciting new expressions.
Both whiskies are single malts and were created using the drinks giant’s “vast reserve of yeast cultures and accumulated know-how to use them, along with skillful blending,” according to Nikka Whisky international business development manager, Emiko Kaji, and these factors are apparent from nose to finish.
The Yoichi is partly made from a batch that exhibits estery aromas reminiscent of ginjyo sake and they combine with soft oak and mixed fruits to create a unique but ultimately delicious drinking experience.
The Miyagikyo brings soft sweet fruits in abundance and they mingle with gentle floral tones on the nose and palate in real style. Juicy apricots, peaches and subtle honey are just a few of the notes to look out for.
With these releases Nikka are once again showcasing their unrivaled knowledge and expertise when it comes to whisky making and they are both a joy to behold. With only limited quantities available, it’s worth acting quickly if you want to get your hands on them.
