Yoichi Single Malt Named Japanese Whisky of Year by Whisky Advocate

Japanese whisky popularity has snowballed in recent years, and once again a whisky from ‘The Land of the Rising Sun’ has made the headlines as the best dram of the year!

In 2015, Jim Murray, famed author of the Whisky Bible, named Suntory’s Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2013 best whisky of the year, shaking shook up the whisky world. Now, another high-end Japanese spirit from the world-renowned Nikka whisky company has become the star of this year: The Yoichi Single Malt (no age statement) carries the honor of being the best Japanese whisky by the Whisky Advocate.

As Nikka’s first distillery, Yoichi was established in Hokkaido in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka and the man known as the “Father of Japanese Whisky.” Yoichi’s whiskies have a signature smoky, peaty flavor due to its unique environment. Nikka’s other distillery, Miyagikyo, specializes in more fruity-flavored drams.
