The Karuizawa Distillery was established in 1955 in the foothills of Mount Asama – an active volcano. The area is a popular mountain resort and the distillery is the highest in Japan at 850m above sea level. Traditional, small-scale, high-quality production is the aim, with wooden wash backs, small stills, and sherry casks from Spain, all contributing to the process. The environment is also ideal for whisky production, with low temperatures and high humidity.
This particular Golden Geisha set includes 2 rare bottles with individual wooden boxes. This set includes a bottle of Karuizawa Golden Geisha 33 Year Old and a bottle of Karuizawa Golden Geisha 31 Year Old. It is one of the rarest bottlings ever created by the now shut-down distillery. Bottled by Elixir Distillers, this wonderful release was matured in a sherry cask for over three decades, before being bottled and sold internationally. It is one of the world’s rarest whiskies.
