Created by Sasanokawa Shuzo Co. Ltd, one of Japan’s oldest producers (founded in 1765, whisky-making since 1946), this expression was first released in spring 2015. Only 2,400 bottles were produced worldwide, making it exceptionally rare.
The whisky spent its first 15 years in oak barrels, then rested in tanks, and finally returned to barrels—some that previously held sherry—for finishing. The final ABV is 43%, standard strength, and non-chill-filtered with natural colour.
This particular bottling was produced prior to the introduction of Japanese whisky labeling standards in February 2021.
Tasting Notes
On the Nose
Full-bodied and smooth, with mellow peat aroma layered over dried fruits and subtle smoke, suggesting age and refined oak influence.
On the Palate
Rich and well-balanced, developing flavours of malt honey, vanilla, spice and muted smoke. A creamy texture with a hint of citrus.
The Finish
Long and warming, with lingering notes of spice, tobacco-like oak, and a touch of dried fruit.
