The Japanese Sidecar cocktail was originally created with Shochu, one of the most popular spirits in all of Japan, however in recent years, new versions have used bourbon or whisky to create something a little more powerful. The results are a truly delightful drinking experience that combines the sweet vanilla and fruity notes of a light Japanese whisky with refreshing bursts of orange from the Cointreau and a gentle bitterness from the Yuzu that helps cut through the sweetness, bringing your palate back down to earth. For this one, we’ve chosen to use the gentle, floral Hakushu 12 Year Old, which marries perfectly with the rest of the ingredients and even adds a gentle smoky hint that becomes more noticeable as you sip.
