The Yamazaki distillery matured the whisky for this release in Puncheon casks, which are noted for being much larger than the regular hogshead cask. While a hogshead will hold only 230 liters, the Puncheon can hold a massive 480 liters. What this means is that this Yamazaki single malt is matured in the cask at a slower rate than normal, allowing it to gently acquire the flavor from the cask, making it all the better!
