Produced at the ambitious Ontake Distillery in Kagoshima Prefecture, Ontake Single Cask Strength No.18 is one of the distillery's most remarkable releases to date. Drawn from a single ex-Solera sherry butt and bottled at its natural strength, this limited edition expression represents a rare and unadulterated taste of what this distillery is doing.

Produced using Ontake's in-house cultivated yeast, carefully selected two-row barley and pristine natural water sourced from hills where the distillery is located, the spirit was matured in a single ex-solera Sherry butt before being bottled without dilution, blending or adjustment of any kind. Every bottle captures the whisky exactly as it emerged from the cask, offering a pure expression of both the distillery and this singular barrel.

Situated approximately 400 metres above sea level overlooking Kagoshima, Kinko Bay and the Sakurajima Volcano, Ontake Distillery benefits from a climate well suited to whisky maturation, combining warm southern temperatures with cool mountain air. Established by Nishi Shuzo, a producer with more than 180 years of distilling heritage, the distillery has quickly earned international recognition for the quality of its whiskies despite only beginning production in 2019.

Ontake Single Cask Strength No.18 has been recognised at Japan's most prestigious spirits competition, the Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition (TWSC) 2026, where it was awarded the Superior Gold Medal before going on to receive both the Japan Grand Prix and Best Category Award. The Japan Grand Prix is awarded to the finest Japanese craft spirit entered into the competition, while the Best Category Award recognises the highest-scoring whisky within its category, selected by a panel of approximately 300 judges.

Limited to just 559 bottles , Ontake Single Cask Strength No.18 offers collectors and connoisseurs a snapshot of Ontake whisky straight from the cask. It’s a real purist’s dram.
