Karuizawa Five Decades: Mercury $18,000.00

Created as part of the Karuizawa Five Decades collection, Mercury combines rare Karuizawa whisky drawn from across the distillery's history.

The collection represents an unprecedented approach to one of Japan's most revered closed distilleries. A private collector spent years assembling an exceptional archive of Karuizawa, bringing together whiskies distilled across five decades. For this project, 210 bottles were opened and their contents carefully assessed before being blended into seven entirely new expressions.

Each expression in the collection is named for one of the seven classical celestial bodies: The Sun, The Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn.

The Meaning of Mercury

In the classical planetary system, Mercury is associated with communication and intellect. Known as the messenger of the gods, Mercury was characterised by speed and agility, carrying messages between worlds and moving freely between different realms. Among the seven classical celestial bodies, Mercury represents connection and the exchange of ideas.

For Karuizawa Five Decades, Mercury reflects that exchange. It brings together whisky from different points in the distillery's history, connecting distinct moments in time within a single expression.

Mercury is one of just 30 bottles produced.

About Karuizawa Distillery

Karuizawa Distillery was established in 1956 in the foothills of Mount Asama, producing a distinctive style of Japanese single malt whisky until its closure in 2000. Known for its small-scale production and use of sherry casks, Karuizawa developed a rich, powerful house style. Following its closure, the remaining stocks became increasingly rare, turning surviving Karuizawa bottlings into some of the most sought-after Japanese whiskies among collectors worldwide.
