Karuizawa Distillery was established in 1955 in the foothills of Mount Asama, an active volcano north-west of Tokyo, to make single malt in as traditional a manner as possible. At 850 metres above sea level, the distillery was the highest above sea levels in Japan; low temperatures and high humidity provided an ideal micro-climate for whisky production. This particular Karuizawa 1980 was exclusively bottled for the Harbour City. It is 35 year old whisky distilled in 1980 and was aged in cask #4376, before being bottled in 2015. It is presented with an original box. Truly a collector’s item! NOTE: Contact us before you order for stock availability.

Karuizawa distillery was a small distillery in Karuizawa which produced first class malt whiskeys. There is no shortage of thawing snow at Mt Asama and due to the chilly climate provided an excellent location for whiskey making. In 1976 therefore, the first 100% domestic malt whiskey saw the light of day at Kuruizawa. The whiskey was stored in small barrels. The distillery later used small pots for distillation. This very small distillery was noted for producing whiskey of the finest quality.
