The Karuizawa Distillery was established in 1955 in the foothills of Mount Asama – an active volcano. The area is a popular mountain resort and the distillery is the highest in Japan at 850m above sea level. Traditional, small-scale, high-quality production is the aim, with wooden wash backs, small stills, and sherry casks from Spain, all contributing to the process. The environment is also ideal for whisky production, with low temperatures and high humidity. This particular Golden Geisha set includes 2 rare bottles with individual wooden boxes. This set includes a bottle of Karuizawa Gold Geisha 40 Year Old with only 392 bottles ever released and a bottle of Karuizawa Blue Geisha 40 Year Old with only 192 bottles available. It is one of the rarest bottlings ever created by the now shut-down distillery. Both are presented in an adorable hard wooden lockable blue and gold cases. They are among the world's rarest whiskies.
