Adam Chang, chairman of Chief Whisky, has been collecting Japanese whisky for over 20 years. In the early days, he would hand-carry bottles back to Taiwan whenever he traveled to Japan for business. Today, he buys entire casks directly from Japanese distilleries. His private collection, “Chief Whisky” now holds nearly 8,000 bottles of Japanese whisky.

In 2025, Chief Whisky launched its “Whisky × Gallery” crossover project. The debut bottling is this single-cask release of MARS Komagatake liquid, aged in a single sherry hogshead and bottled at 57% cask strength. Only 286 bottles available.

Distilled in Japan’s highest-altitude distillery and aged on the lush, coastal island of Yakushima, this whisky brings together alpine purity and maritime complexity. Expect smoked meat, dried fruit, black pepper, cigar and peat. Layered and structured with deep, savory richness.

The label features a collaboration with a renowned Taiwanese contemporary calligrapher, blending tradition and modernism in vivid red and green. This is not just whisky, but a harmonious expression of art, provenance, and spirit.
