Nagahama - A Distillery With Big Ambitions

Founded in 2016, Nagahama is Japan’s smallest distillery, situated next to Lake Biwa, Japan’s largest freshwater lake. They produce a spirit as crisp and elegant as the distillery’s surroundings and are one of the fastest rising craft distilleries in all of Japan. While the distillery waits for their own single malts to come of age, the skilled craftsman at the distillery have put their expertise to good use in producing a range of world blended whisky sold under the brand-name Amahagan (Nagahama spelled backwards, in case you didn’t notice).

Amahagan World Malts

The Amahagan range of world malts has burst onto the global stage, winning a myriad of awards at international competitions. Each bottle in the beautiful series features an expression that has been matured with a unique combination of cask type and maturation period. From the Edition No.1, matured in bourbon wood, to the multi-award-winning Edition No.3, matured in Mizunara wood, and thenLimited Edition Sakura wood finish bottling, each of these bottles gives enthusiasts the opportunity to experience flavors unlike any other.

Father’s Day Edition

In Japan, Father’s Day, known as chichi no hi, is celebrated on the third Sunday of June every year. This date parallels many other countries and the significance of the holiday also aligns quite similarly to how the occasion is celebrated in the west. It is an occasion in which children display gratitude and respect to one’s father by spending time together and giving gifts. This year Amahagan has crafted an exclusive expression for the holiday and it’s an exceptional release that is sure to put a smile on your dad’s face. Matured in sherry brandy wood, it brings dried berries, currants and orange zest on the nose that mingle perfectly with aromas of cinnamon spice, before the palate arrives with rich fruitcake, jasmine and gentle black pepper. The finish is elegant, long and full and holds until your next sip.
