dekantā was founded in June 2015 by Makiyo after discovering the scarcity of Japanese whisky in international markets. Since then, we’ve shipped thousands of rare and award-winning whiskies to enthusiasts in over 60 countries. 

Along the way, we’ve earned accolades including Japanese Independent Bottler of the year at the 2018 World Drinks Awards and a gold IWSC award for our Shimai World Blended Whisky.

Through exclusive partnerships with some of Japan’s most exciting distilleries, we’ve introduced private cask ownership to our communities. Today, we raise a glass to your continuous support, and to the remarkable spirit that started it all.

Three years after dekantā was founded, we unveiled our first independent bottling, The Kikou, in June 2018. Since then, we’ve released over ten distinctive expressions, spanning single cask single malts from emerging Japanese distilleries to award-winning world blends and numerous rare and coveted Karuizawa releases.

Every dekantā release is crafted with meticulous care, ensuring each bottling holds whisky worth of your collection.

We see ourselves as a global ambassador for Japanese whisky with a huge responsibility to support the producers, blenders, bottlers and craftspeople of Japan and are proud to have played a role in the growth of the modern Japanese whisky industry. 

Our cask program has brought us into partnership with some of Japan’s most promising distilleries: the revived Karuizawa and Hanyu distilleries, the award-winning Ontake, and the farm-to-bottle Kiyokawa Distillery — with more on the horizon.

Together, we’ve helped hundreds of clients around the world realize the dream of Japanese whisky cask ownership. From arranging distillery visits to supporting our partners in building their international presence, our program is built on trust, transparency and true connection.

With direct distillery relationships, visitation and sampling rights, on-site maturation, and full flexibility for owners, we believe this is how cask ownership should be.
