It’s a single malt distilled at the brilliant Shinshu distillery and matured in a combination of Sherry and American White Oak casks, before being bottled at 50%. Initially only released as part of single casks, Nikka decided to add their Coffey Malt to their core range in 2014. Coffey stills are normally used for grain whisky production, and they make the malt delightfully fruity and spicy. This expression is one of our all-time favourites here at dekantā. Distilled in the continuous Coffey stills at the Miyagikyo distillery, which were imported from Scotland in 1963, it’s a fruity and spicy malt whisky made in a grain whisky still – something you won’t find outside of Japan.

Ki No Bi Kyoto Japanese Dry Gin

“KI NO BI” which translates to “The Beauty of the Seasons” is inspired by tradition and is distilled, blended and bottled in Kyoto. The gin is made in a recognizable dry style but with a distinct Japanese accent. It was the first Japanese gin ever made in Kyoto. It was created with Japanese botanicals such as yellow yuzu from the north of Kyoto Prefecture, hinoki wood chips (Japanese cypress), bamboo, gyokuro tea from the Uji region and green sanshō (Japanese peppercorn) berries.
