The Hanyu Distillery was located in a town with the same name. The company was founded by the Akuto family, who had been in the brewing business since the 1600s. In the 1980s, the company began distilling whisky, but unfortunately, this failed to last, with the company closing down in 2000. Bottles from the Hanyu distillery are now highly sought after.

This Hanyu 1988, named “Big Butt”, is a higher than usual strength whisky. Its taste is unusually buttery and rich, and the label features a Sumo match. Only 200 bottles were released.
