Suntory whisky has received so many awards and accolades for its whiskies, we actually lost count a long time ago. Of all of Suntory's products, the Yamazaki expressions are somewhat legendary, straight from Japan's oldest distillery. Here, we present the Yamazaki 50 Year Old 2011 Release – one of the oldest, rarest bottlings in the world. This canbe defined as a single malt whisky, but also as areal piece of Japanese history. It is the culmination of more than half a century of maturation in oak; one can only imagine the depth of flavour found within. Presented in anoak, handcraftedbox, the Yamazaki50 year-oldis more than a whisky. It is a piece of art, and only 150 pieces (bottles) were ever released! Note: Discounts and promo codes cannot be used to purchase this bottle.

Nose: Spiced and intense, with an almost perfume-like delivery of sandalwood, potpourri and incense. Supple sherry and even the vaguest whisper of smoke. The oak grip is good and very deep.
Palate: Incredibly rich - this is an enveloping malt, filled with aromatic wood, dried herbs and a barrage of exotic spices. A touch of manuka honey sweetness, chestnut mushrooms, allspice and even a hint of blossom.
Finish: A very long finish with a predominance of fruit of all kinds, from dried apricot to stewed apples and Madeira wine. A hint of agave nectar sweetness, and a plume of wood smoke.

Yamazaki is Japan's oldest whisky distillery opened in 1923, it was founded by Shinjiro Torii near Oaska. The location was chosen because of the excellent water supply in the area. This seems to have payed off, today Single Malts from the Yamazaki distillery has the largest share of any single malts whiskies in Japan. The 18 year old Yamazaki Single Malts is thought by many to be the best whisky in the world and has for example won six consecutive double gold medals at the San Francisco Spirits Competitions from 2008 to 2013.
