Description
Introducing the Karuizawa Seven Luminaries Collection - a stunning blend of timeless Karuizawa single malt whiskies spanning five decades from 1960 - 2000. Drawing inspiration from the Seven Luminaries (Shichiyō), an ancient East Asian system in which the seven celestial bodies govern the days of the week, this beautiful collection presents seven distinct interpretations of Karuizawa's remarkable legacy.
A Karuizawa Collection, Remade
The collector behind this project spent years assembling an exceptional archive of Karuizawa whiskies. While most collectors keep bottles like these unopened, he had a different ambition: to create his own take on Karuizawa. One by one, each bottle was uncorked and blended, transforming them into seven entirely new whiskies.
Among the bottles offered up were some of Karuizawa's most celebrated releases, among them the coveted Karuizawa 1983 Vintage Cask #7524, the Five Decades 1960–2000 Crane & Turtle Set and the Karuizawa 1973 Martin's Selection. Together with multiple other vintages they form the The Seven Luminaries series.
The Seven Luminaries
At the heart of the Karuizawa Seven Luminaries Collection is a striking design inspired by the seven celestial bodies of the ancient East Asian Shichiyō system. Each of the seven bottles features its own distinct luminary — Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, the Sun and the Moon — creating a unique visual identity for each expression while uniting the collection as a whole. Just as these celestial bodies were traditionally associated with the days of the week, each bottle represents a different facet of Karuizawa’s extraordinary legacy, with whiskies spanning five decades from 1960 to 2000. Together, the seven designs form a constellation of rare and remarkable single malts, celebrating both the passage of time and the enduring brilliance of Karuizawa.
Immaculate Presentation
Each decanter has been made from crystal by the renowned Scottish glassmaker Glencairn. Precision engraving ensures every design is permanently etched onto the bottle, creating a presentation worthy of the whisky it contains. The accompanying presentation box was constructed from the finest grade oak, sections containing knots or noticeable variations in grain or colour are removed and it features a traditional Japanese mortise-and-tenon opening and closing mechanism, a method that demands a master woodworker’s joinery.Every box is then sanded and polished three to four times, producing a flawless finish that showcases the natural beauty of the wood. The magnetic closure is completely concealed within the structure, preserving the clean lines of the design, while custom-made protective inserts securely cradle both the neck and base of the decanter during transport and display.
Only 30 Sets Produced
Limited to only 30 complete sets worldwide, The Seven Luminaries represents one of the most exclusive modern Karuizawa releases ever assembled. Each expression is available individually, or you can purchase the complete collection of seven bottles - an extraordinary opportunity to own seven distinct interpretations of one of Japan's most iconic lost distilleries.
