Sakurao Dry Gin Original, launched in 2018 by the newly established Sakurao Distillery (formerly Chugoku Jozo), is Hiroshima’s pioneering gin offering. Crafted by masters with over a century of distillation experience, it's distilled using a German-made copper hybrid still and a unique combination of steeping and vapor techniques .

It features a harmonious blend of 14 botanicals, of which nine are sourced exclusively from Hiroshima:

Hiroshima-sourced: Navel orange, Sweet summer orange, Lemon, Yuzu (Akitakata), Daidai (bitter orange), Hinoki (Japanese cypress bark), Green tea, Aka shiso (red perilla), and Ginger

Imported classics: Juniper berries, coriander seed (among five traditional botanicals).

The gin opens with vibrant citrus and juniper on the nose, moving into a palate rich with ginger, green tea, and a subtle resinous hint from hinoki. The finish lingers with orange zest, juniper, and delicate herbal notes.

It has earned international acclaim, securing multiple Gold awards Gold at competitions including the Los Angeles International Spirits Competition (“Best of Gin”, 2018) and The Gin Masters (UK, 2019), The World Gin Awards and the San Francisco World Spirits Competition (2019).
