A Legendary Collaboration
At dekantā, we are inspired by the opportunity to collaborate with outstanding talents from around Japan to create the most incredible Old & Rare Japanese whisky bottlings.
Our latest collaboration with Onishi Gallery and Inoue Manji — a Japanese Living National Treasure — saw us exhibit six beautiful bottles in New York that bring together two legendary aspects of Japanese culture and today we are delighted to reveal these to you.
The whisky contained within the bespoke vessels was distilled in 1999-2000 at the Karuizawa Distillery, and we are delighted to present to you three 50cl bottles and three 70cl bottles, priced $15,000 and $16,000 respectively. Each bottle comes inside an elegant, hand-crafted wooden box.
All six bottles will be sold via ballot, with winners being drawn on Sunday March 31st.

Inoue Manji – A Living Legend
Working with Inoue Manji, a true living legend of Japanese craftsmanship, is a privilege for dekantā. His work transcends the art world, being renowned by many around Japan thanks to its elegant, flowing style and stunning precision.
Over the years, Inoue-san has constantly strived for perfection in his work, working tirelessly to create pieces that are as flawless as they are beautiful.
Across my whole life, I have created only white porcelain
without any patterns. I am only human, however, so sometimes I
feel like adding beautiful patterns.

The Artwork
For this Karuizawa masterpiece, Inoue Manji created six gorgeous ceramic bottles that tell the story of whisky production.
The bottles embody the three key ingredients of whisky making — barley, water and wood — and each bottle displays these ingredients in a unique, minimalist and elegant fashion.
The combination of pastel colors to represent the barley, Inoue-san’s signature style representing the water, and a stunning vertical wood design — previously unseen in Inoue’s work — highlighting the significance of cask maturation, it’s a one of a kind masterpiece that will live on through the ages.

The Whisky
For this collection, we sourced 1999-2000 vintage Karuizawa Single Malt Whisky. This is some of the rarest liquid on the planet today and extremely desirable thanks to its exceptional quality and limited availability.
The Master Distillers at Karuizawa were experts at creating rich, full-bodied liquid that exhibits a unique range of tasting notes not often found in other whiskies. Their work with sherry wood is widely regarded as masterful and many distilleries around the world look to Karuizawa as a benchmark for how to mature whisky using ex-sherry butts.
