In January 2019 they lifted the veil and fans around the world were introduced to the next chapter in Suntory Whisky – the Suntory Ao World Blend. The release was a resounding success, with the supplies of the limited release soon running low. Then, Suntory followed up with phase 2 – a second limited batch of this groundbreaking expression that was initially only be available in Japan. Now, it’s time for the third world blended whisky in the series, The Suntory Ao Smoky Pleasure. This one is another small batch release and it brings unique, building smoky notes to the smooth, fruity whisky.

The Asaka distillery is one of Japan’s newest and they have already caught the attention of avid whisky drinkers everywhere with their first single malt expressions. The Asaka The First was a huge success and a whisky we enjoyed thoroughly, so when we got the chance to bottle a cask of Asaka single malt to celebrate our 5th anniversary, we grabbed it with both hands. The award-winning Asaka Aoi Edition was matured in a single first-fill bourbon cask that has imparted a range of light fruity and vallinin notes onto the creamy, gentle liquid. Featuring our founder, Makiyo Masa, on the label and limited to just 343 bottles upon release, it’s a collectible expression and a unique gift for Father’s Day.
Kyoyu World Blended Whisky
The Kyoyu is dekanta’s inaugural World Blended Whisky released to celebrate our 6th Anniversary. It was built around the concept of sharing and created by blending 27 Year Old scotch from 3 of the country’s top distilleries with younger whisky produced at three of Japan’s rising stars. It’s a superb expression that features incredible, Ukiyo-e style artwork on the label that highlights the historic partnership between these two great nations. Mars Tsunuki The Peated 2020
The Mars Tsunuki The Peated is one of two single malt releases from the new Tsunuki Distillery. For years, Mars have been masters of creating balanced, smooth and ultimately delicious whiskies at their Shinshu distillery, so it comes as no surprise that the whiskies from their Tsunuki distillery are brilliant in every way. Lightly fruity, with gentle spices and subtle, building peat smoke, it’s a wonderful Japanese single malt that delivers on the nose, palate and finish.
Nikka Coffey Grain
The Nikka Coffey Grain is a splendid expression that has become a huge fan favourite among Japanese whisky lovers the world over. It was created in the famous Coffey Still, a continuous still invented by Irishman Aenas Coffey that was brought to Japan by the legendary Masataka Taketsuru in the 1960s. The unique still ensures that the distillate retains an incredible amount of flavour, while also giving a smooth, creamy mouthfeel to the liquid. Ichiro’s Malt 505 World Blended Whisky
The Ichiro’s Malt 505 World Blended Whisky follows in the footsteps of the popular whisky producer’s white label and award-winning purple label world blended expressions and it looks set to be just as successful. Ichiro’s haven’t gone into detail about exactly what whiskies this blend contains, but given some of the spirit from their popular Chichibu distillery is now over 10 years old, it’s expected that a healthy portion is included here. It’s another fantastic expression from one of Japan’s premier distillers, blenders and bottlers, and one will be enjoyed by millions around the world.
Hakushu Distiller’s Reserve
The Hakushu Distillery, also known as The Forest Distillery thanks to its location high in the Japanese mountains, is known for producing a spirit as refreshing and crisp as the rivers, valleys and trees that surround it. The Distiller’s Reserve is the entry level whisky to the Hakuhsu range, but that doesn’t mean you should look past it. It brings sweet, floral tones on the nose, followed by bursts of citrus fruits and fresh flowers on the palate. For a non-age-statement whisky, this one really manages to pack in a lot of flavour and offers incredible value for money.
Yamazakura 963 21 Year Old
The Sasanokawa Shuzo Company Limited have been creating fine whiskies since all the way back in 1948 and today they are best known for their exciting Yamazakura range, which features a number of truly compelling and delicious expressions. This 963 21 Year Old was carefully crafted from the finest malt and grains on offer and it brings an exceptional range of rich, fruity and spicy flavours to your glass. This whisky has consistently been a best-seller on dekanta for a few years now, highlighting just how popular and exciting it really is.
Chichibu On The Way
The Chichibu On The Way is a superb release from one of Japan’s most popular distilleries that is a vatting of three expertly crafted barrels of single malt – one first-fill bourbon, one refill bourbon and one Japanese Mizunara cask. It was bottled at 58.5 % cask strength, with only 10,700 bottles produced, and brings baking spices, apples and nutty malt flavours that bounce on the palate and hold on the finish. If you want to get Dad a truly special bottle this Father’s Day, this might just be the one for you.
Yamazaki 18 Year Old
Many consider this fine whisky to be the pinnacle of the Yamazaki core range, and we’d find it hard to argue with that. The Nikka From The Barrel blended whisky is a stunning expression, at a fantastic price point, that has rapidly grown in popularity in recent times. Today, it is a favourite of whisky fans the world over, bringing a smooth and complex array of notes to the table, offering tremendous value for money. It was created from malt and grain distilled at Nikka’s Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries, combined with some liquid from their Scottish Ben Nevis distillery, that was then aged in a mix of bourbon and sherry casks. The Nikka From The Barrel is a warming, smooth, fruity and slightly spicy world blended whisky that is perfect for enjoying with Dad.

Hakushu 18 Year Old
It’s hard to pick a winner from Hakushu’s varied range, but the 18 Year Old has to be right up there. This is a whisky that is so smooth, well-balanced and complex that it comes incredibly close to perfection. Created from crisp, refreshing spirit that has been aged in a mix of sherry and bourbon casks, under the watchful eye of the Hakushu Master Distiller, it brings rich fruits, citrus, honey, apricots and sweet dark chocolate to the table, all backed up by a gentle whiff of peat smoke. An absolute delight from nose to finish.
Matsui Mizunara Cask Single Malt
This fine single malt whisky comes from one of Japan’s newest up and coming whisky producers – Matsui. The owner’s of the Kurayoshi distillery burst onto the scene in 2019 with a number of exciting whiskies, but it is this non-age-statement Matsui Mizunara Cask expression that has been making waves and has been lauded by fans and critics alike. This fine whisky had already picked up a Double Gold award at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2019, before being awarded “Best Japanese Single Malt” in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2020, and it’s really no surprise. A superb gift!
Asaka The First
This Yamazakura Asaka The First is a delicious single malt produced by the Sasanokawa Shuzo distillery and released under their Asaka brand. It was matured for just over 3 years and, despite being a young whisky, it delivers with a range of compelling aromas and flavours. It’s a limited edition whisky of which only 1,500 bottles were produced, making it a unique and memorable gift for Father’s Day.
