Frequently asked questions

Karuizawa whisky — the questions we are asked most.

Is Karuizawa whisky still made?

The original Karuizawa distillery closed in 2011 and its equipment was sold off by 2012, so original Karuizawa whisky is finite. A new distillery has since been built to revive the name, using replicas of the original equipment.

Why is Karuizawa whisky so collectable?

Karuizawa was a small distillery that used small pot stills and sherry casks. With no new stock of the original whisky, the bottles that remain are prized by collectors.

Is the bottle checked before it ships?

Yes. We inspect and photograph label, fill level and box condition before listing, and describe it on each bottle's page. The bottle you see is the bottle you receive.

Where do you ship from, and how long does it take?

Every order ships direct from Japan, in 3–10 working days to the countries listed in our shipping policy.

Can I return a bottle?

Unopened bottles in their original packaging can be returned within 14 days of receipt. See our returns policy.
