This stunning Chichibu 10 Years Old whisky is the 12th bottle in the distillery’s popular Ghost Series. Distilled in 2009, it was then aged for 10 years in a single bourbon barrel that imparted a range of lightly fruity, sweet notes, before being bottled at a cask strength of 61.9% in 2019.
The stunning label depicts the well-known Japanese ghost story of Okiku. The story revolves around a set of 10 plates, with one missing. Okiku, a servant maid, was blamed for the missing plate and died shortly after. She then returned to haunt the living, appearing each night and slowly counting to nine before letting out a huge, terrifying wail. Okiku was eventually exorcised by a family friend, who simply waited for her to count to nine and then said “Ten”. From that moment forth, Okiku’s spirit was satisfied and never appeared again, however the tale lives on in folklore.
Only 157 bottles of this stunning whisky were released, making it highly collectable as well as delicious.
